Pressinformation i England.

Uni-light will be demonstrating the amazing properties of its ground-breaking Dairy Light and daylight harvesting controller, and displaying a selection of LED products from its comprehensive range at the show.

Developed in conjunction with the dairy industry, and now installed in over 20 units in the UK and Europe, Unilight’s Dairy Light is the only LED light on the market designed to optimise melatonin suppression with proven results.  The patented, power efficient LED lights increase milk yield, typically by 8-10%, and improve cow health and fertility. They are quick and easy to install and response times have been recorded in as little as two weeks, with payback within six months.

Light output is between 95 and 110 lumens per watt, depending on the local voltage level. The special integrated units are available in 2 foot or 4 foot lengths with opaque lens diffusers with ratings of either 36W or 60W respectively. They are supplied with a IP65 waterproof cable entry at both ends, stainless steel suspension kits and can be wired for ‘plug and play’ reducing installation time and cost.

Uni-light has offices in Gloucestershire and Sweden, R&D in Silicon Valley, California and its own factory in Shanghai, where it manufactures a comprehensive range of ISO 9001 certified and patented LED lighting products that dramatically improve both lighting efficiency and longevity.

A 240 cow farm using Unilight’s Dairy Light has undergone an independent assessment by Alltech E-CO2, (the leading supplier of agricultural sustainability measurement and mitigation services). The data generated over a three-month period reveals that based on a herd of 200 cows and 10,000 litres of milk, cost savings of 1.8 ppl (pence per litre)are achieved.

Lower concentrate feed rate generates £210 savings per cow per year from a capital cost of £90 per cow Time spent by cows idling potentially unproductively in passageways was almost negated. The cows are milked twice daily achieving 10,300 litres per cow milk sales; they are housed partly in building with 3 rows of hooped cubicles with feed passage on mats and partly in a kennel building with similar beds

David Hardy from Unilight commented “We are delighted with this report – the first independent recording we have based on farm generated data before and after installation. Research always suggested such responses were achievable but we now have the evidence! With payback of all capital expenditure in months rather than years, farmers can cut cow numbers and/or feed costs or increase yield, with almost immediate cash flow benefits.”

Data generated by pedometers also recorded an increase in lying times of ¾ hour in a 24-hour period with cows spending more time either eating, drinking or lying down. Time spent by cows idling potentially unproductively in passageways was almost negated.
